ABSTRACT
The issue of Arab nationalism is perhaps one of the most sensitive topics in Turkish academia. Even today, it is difficult for many researchers to accurately define the fact that the coexistence of Turks and Arabs for nearly 400 years resulted in such a separation. The reason for this is undoubtedly the reshaping of the perception of the two communities, which belong to the same religion and are bound to each other by the law of brotherhood, under the influence of the ideas of us and the other. What influenced the emergence of the idea of Arab nationalism has always been a subject of debate. The aim of this study is to reveal when and under what conditions Arab nationalism emerged and how it was shaped and developed in the context of the ideology of nationalism. The question of the impact of the policies of the Committee of Union and Progress and the missionary schools on Arab nationalism, which are among the important schools that emerged in this historical course, was sought to be answered and the impact levels of both formations were analysed in depth. In the study, qualitative research methods and historical research methods were used together and primary sources related to the subject were accessed. The sources on the missionary activities of Protestant missionaries and Catholic Jesuits in the Ottoman Empire, the reports of the “American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions”, the largest missionary organisation operating in the Ottoman Empire, and the policies of the Turkish Revolutionary Power in the Arab provinces were examined.
